terranets bw acquires Gas-Union Transport
Stuttgart-based terranets bw GmbH has acquired the regional gas transport system operator Gas-Union Transport GmbH, thus expanding its transport network from southern Germany to Lower Saxony. The purchase agreement was signed on Thursday, 3 December 2020. The merger of Gas-Union Transport and terranets bw will be completed by the end of the year.
“With the acquisition, we are realising a strategic growth opportunity,” says Katrin Flinspach, Managing Director of terranets bw. “The structure and supply tasks of both networks complement each other perfectly and offer many opportunities.”
The merger expands the gas transport network of terranets bw by approximately 550 kilometres to a total length of approximately 2,700 kilometres. The Gas-Union Transport network will now be integrated in the transmission system of terranets bw. By 1 January 2022, all Gas-Union Transport market-based business processes will be converted to the requirements of a transmission system operator.
Gas-Union Transport GmbH is a subsidiary of Gas-Union GmbH, of which VNG AG is the sole shareholder. Both terranets bw GmbH and VNG AG are owned by EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG.

Die terranets bw ist ein unabhängiger Transportnetzbetreiber für Gas. Seit 1961 betreibt das Unternehmen das Fernleitungsnetz sowie Gashochdruckanlagen in Baden-Württemberg. Mit ihrem über 2.000 km langen Gashochdruckleitungsnetz stellt die terranets bw den diskriminierungsfreien Transport von Erdgas sicher und gewährleistet eine technisch zuverlässige Versorgung. Heute sind mehr als zwei Drittel aller Städte und Gemeinden in Baden-Württemberg sowie Teile der Schweiz, Vorarlberg und das Fürstentum Liechtenstein an das Fernleitungsnetz der terranets bw angebunden. Darüber hinaus betreibt das Unternehmen ein rund 2.000 km langes Nachrichten- bzw. Telekommunikationsnetz mit entsprechenden Anlagen und Einrichtungen. Ihren Kunden bietet die terranets bw eine Vielzahl an technischen Dienstleistungen rund um den Gastransport und Telekommunikationsinfrastruktur. Im Unternehmen mit acht Standorten in Baden Württemberg arbeiten 235 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter.
