BALANCE Erneuerbare Energien GmbH (BEE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of VNG Group company BALANCE VNG Bioenergie GmbH (BALANCE), today acquired the German biogas plant portfolio of Enovos Luxembourg S.A. The portfolio consists of a total of five biogas plants located in Saxony-Anhalt (Haldensleben-Satuelle and Oebisfelde) as well as in Lower Saxony (Buchholz). At the same time, the employees responsible for operating the plants have been transferred to BEE. The acquisition is still subject to approval by the Bundeskartellamt (the Federal Anti-Trust Authority). The parties have agreed that the purchase price should be kept confidential. The newly acquired biogas plants will expand the present portfolio of BALANCE, which currently includes eight plants.
With the new biogas plant portfolio, BALANCE is doubling the capacity of its portfolio and consistently pursuing its growth strategy. The VNG company is making a key contribution to substantial growth in the biogas field in line with the VNG Group strategy “VNG 2030+”. “Biogas can be used and stored flexibly, which is a key USP of this fuel. In addition, biogas can be used today to reduce CO2 emissions in the heating and transport sectors. We see considerable prospects for biogas as an effective supple-ment to the growing share of fluctuating renewable energy sources in Germany,” says Hans-Joachim Polk, Member of the Executive Board of VNG responsible for Infrastructure and Technology.
